Hotels with a kitchenette for a week-long stay in New Orleans

Verification pending — confirm directly with the hotel

1The situation

You're in New Orleans for a week or more — a work assignment, a hospital stay, a house-hunt, a gap between leases — and eating out three times a day in a city that is very good at making you eat out will cost more than the room. The difference between a real kitchen (two burners, a full-size fridge, a sink you can wash a pan in) and a 'kitchenette' (a mini-fridge and a microwave) is $30-50 a day in food. New Orleans' extended-stay supply splits in two: Extended Stay America and Home2 in Kenner at $85-140 with real kitchens and free parking, and the Homewood/Residence Inn/Staybridge tier in the CBD at $150-220 plus $40-50 valet. The suites on Canal and in Kenner with a fridge-and-microwave 'kitchenette' sit in between. The weekly rate — which you have to ask for — is where the money is.

2What you actually need

  1. A real kitchen, not a 'kitchenette'

Ask specifically: how many burners, how big is the fridge, is there cookware. Extended Stay America and Home2 rooms have a cooktop and full fridge; the Comfort Suites and SpringHill 'kitchenette' means a mini-fridge and microwave. Extended-stay brands often keep cookware at the front desk — you have to request it.

  2. The 7-night rate, asked for by name

Extended-stay brands price in breakpoints: nightly, 7+ nights, 30+ nights. The 7-night rate is often 15-30% under the nightly rate and is rarely shown on booking sites. Call the property, say how many nights, and ask for the weekly rate.

  3. Parking in the maths

A CBD suite with a full kitchen saves on food and then gives it back in $40-50/night valet — $300 a week. If you have a car, Kenner's free lots win; if you don't, the CBD hotels are on the streetcar and walkable to a grocery.

  4. Housekeeping cadence you can live with

Budget extended-stays clean weekly by default (towel swaps on request). If that bothers you, ask what a mid-week clean costs. It is one of the reasons the rate is low.

  5. On-site guest laundry and a grocery nearby

A week means laundry — on-site machines turn a laundromat trip into $5. A kitchen is only a saving if you stock it: Rouses Market on Baronne serves the CBD hotels; Kenner's hotels are within a mile or two of a Rouses or Winn-Dixie on Veterans or Williams Boulevard.

3The shortlist5 hotels, cheapest first

Each hotel is here because it meets the requirements above — not because of its star rating. Prices are nightly rates before tax for the default dates; volatile facts (shuttles, parking terms) are stated as what to confirm, not as promises.

1.4 mi from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) · 2710 Idaho Ave., Kenner, Louisiana 70062

Best Western International2.5-star
8.3/1054

Not an extended-stay brand: the 'kitchenette' here is a fridge, microwave and coffee maker, no burners. It still works for a week with hot breakfast included, free parking and guest laundry; ask whether a weekly rate is offered.

Parking
Free for guests. Cruise-length parking is not automatic — ask for a named park-and-cruise rate and confirm the number of days covered directly with the hotel.
Shuttle
Airport shuttle. A run to the cruise terminals is not guaranteed — confirm directly with the hotel whether the package includes the 25-40 minute port transfer. Airport: Free airport shuttle to and from MSY. Hours and whether it runs on a loop or on request vary — confirm the first and last shuttle times directly with the hotel before booking an early flight or late arrival.

A full kitchen in every suite — full-size fridge, cooktop, dishwasher, cookware — with hot breakfast included and Rouses Market on Baronne a short walk away. Downtown's best week-long option if you skip the car: valet is $40-50/night, so a week with a car adds roughly $300.

An all-suite hotel with a fridge, microwave and separate sitting area, not a real kitchen — no burners. Fine for a week of breakfasts and reheating with a hot breakfast included; ask for a 7-night rate and budget $35-45/night if you bring a car.

4Practical logistics

Weekly-rate breakpoints
Typically nightly / 7+ nights / 30+ nights at Extended Stay America, Home2, Homewood and Candlewood. Ask for the 7-night rate directly with the hotel — booking sites usually show the nightly rate only.
Housekeeping
Budget extended-stay brands generally clean weekly, with linen and towel exchange on request; the Hilton and Marriott extended-stay tiers usually clean more often. Confirm the cadence and any charge for extra service directly with the hotel.
Grocery
Rouses Market at 701 Baronne St is the CBD's full supermarket, a short walk from the Poydras and Canal Street hotels. In Kenner, Rouses and Winn-Dixie stores sit on Veterans Memorial and Williams Boulevards within a short drive of the airport-area hotels.
Parking
CBD hotels: valet or garage at $30-50/night, confirm the current rate. Kenner and Gentilly hotels: free lots. Over a week the difference is $200-350.
Event-week pricing
Extended-stay rates spike like everything else during Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Essence Fest and Sugar Bowl/Saints weeks. If your week overlaps, book early and lock the rate.

Prices and schedules change. Treat figures as ranges and check before booking.

5What to avoid

  • A cheaper nightly rate at a standard hotel that loses to the extended-stay weekly rate after four or five nights once you add food. Do the maths for the whole week, room plus meals plus parking.
  • 'Kitchenette' in a listing without checking what it means. At the Comfort Suites and SpringHill tier it is a mini-fridge and a microwave. Ask for burners.
  • Booking seven separate nights on a booking site. You'll pay the nightly rate and may be moved rooms mid-stay. Call the hotel and book the week as one reservation.
  • A CBD full-kitchen suite for a week with a car unless someone else is paying — $40-50 valet a night erases the grocery savings. The same kitchen is $85-140 in Kenner with a free lot.
  • Assuming daily housekeeping at a budget extended-stay. It isn't, and the reviews complaining about it are missing the point of the rate.

6Book

Use the rate links on each hotel above. If a hotel's value depends on a named package (park & cruise, shuttle), confirm the package with the hotel before you pay — packages are usually direct-booking rate codes, not OTA rooms.
