Hotels with a kitchen for a week-long stay in Houston

Verification pending — confirm directly with the hotel

1The situation

A week in Houston — a contract in the Energy Corridor, a course, a family visit, and above all a hospital stay — changes the maths. Eating out three times a day for seven days costs more than the room, and a real kitchen with an H-E-B nearby fixes that. Houston is unusually well supplied here: the extended-stay market is deep and the prices are low, from about $40 a night for a studio with a cooktop out west to $88 for a proper suite near the Medical Center. The trap is the word 'kitchenette', which covers everything from a two-burner cooktop with a full-size fridge and a dishwasher to a bar fridge and a microwave on a shelf. The second trap is what you give up at the bottom of the market: below about $55 a night you are in weekly-stay brands rather than hotels, with limited desk hours and weekly housekeeping.

2What you actually need

  1. A real kitchen: cooktop, full-size fridge, ideally a dishwasher

Staybridge, Homewood and MainStay have proper kitchens; WoodSpring's studios have a genuine two-burner cooktop and a full-size fridge despite the price. Some cheaper studios have a fridge and microwave only. Decide whether you will cook or just reheat, and ask which you are getting — the photos rarely make it clear.

  2. The 7-night rate, asked for explicitly

Most extended-stay brands have breakpoints at 7 nights and again around 30. The weekly rate often works out 15-30% under seven times the nightly one, and it is frequently not shown on booking sites. Call the property or book direct and ask.

  3. Laundry on site and a supermarket within a short drive

Free guest laundry is standard across these brands and saves packing a week of clothes. H-E-B and Kroger are the main chains; nothing here is walkable from a freeway frontage road, so assume you are driving.

  4. A clear housekeeping cadence

Extended-stay hotels usually clean weekly, not daily, on stays over a few nights. That is fine if you expect it — ask how to get fresh towels mid-week and whether daily service costs extra.

  5. The 30-night Texas tax exemption

Texas exempts stays of 30 consecutive nights or more from state hotel occupancy tax, and local tax may drop too. Houston's combined rate is 17%, so on a month that is a substantial sum. Ask the hotel how they apply it — they will not volunteer it.

3The shortlist8 hotels, cheapest first

Each hotel is here because it meets the requirements above — not because of its star rating. Prices are nightly rates before tax for the default dates; volatile facts (shuttles, parking terms) are stated as what to confirm, not as promises.

1.HomeTowne Studios Houston - West Oaks/ Energy Corridor

14.8 mi from NRG Park · 2130 Highway 6, Houston, Texas 77077

HomeTowne Studios by Red Roof2-starRenovated 2018
6.8/1064

The lowest nightly rate in Houston on the figures we found, with a kitchenette and free laundry. This is a budget weekly-stay brand rather than a hotel — limited desk hours, weekly housekeeping, no breakfast — and cleanliness reviews are the weak point. Ask for the weekly and monthly rates, and read recent reviews before booking a month.

2.WoodSpring Suites Houston Westchase

9.0 mi from NRG Park · 5959 West Sam Houston South Parkway, Houston, 77072

WoodSpring Suites
6.5/1048

One of the cheapest kitchens in Houston at around $42, and unlike many at this price it is a genuine **two-burner cooktop with a full-size fridge**, not a microwave on a shelf. What you give up is desk hours, housekeeping and breakfast. Ask for the 7-night and 30-night rates — that is how this brand is priced.

4Practical logistics

Extended-stay clusters
Around the Texas Medical Center and NRG Park on Old Spanish Trail and South Main; the IAH belt along Beltway 8; and west Houston through Westchase, West Oaks and the Energy Corridor, which is where the lowest rates are. Downtown has little true extended-stay stock.
Weekly rates
Typically 15-30% below the equivalent seven nightly rates, with another step at around 30 nights. Not always shown online — ask the property directly. Rates change; confirm before booking.
Hotel occupancy tax
Houston's combined rate is about **17%** — 6% state, 7% city, 2% Harris County and 2% Harris County-Houston Sports Authority. Texas exempts stays of 30 consecutive nights or more from the state portion, and local tax may also drop. Confirm with the hotel how they handle it.
Groceries
H-E-B and Kroger are the main chains, with a Walmart Supercenter near most of these corridors. Nothing is walkable from a freeway frontage road.
What the cheap end gives up
Below about $55 a night you are in weekly-stay brands rather than hotels: limited desk hours, weekly housekeeping, no breakfast and variable upkeep. That is a fair trade for a month; it is a poor one for four nights.

Prices and schedules change. Treat figures as ranges and check before booking.

5What to avoid

  • Comparing nightly rates. A $79 nightly room loses to a $95 hotel's weekly rate after five nights — always ask for the 7-night price before deciding.
  • Trusting the word 'kitchenette'. Confirm whether the room has a cooktop; if it is a fridge and microwave, plan to reheat rather than cook.
  • Assuming daily housekeeping. Most long-stay properties clean weekly; if you want daily service, ask what it costs.
  • Booking 30 nights without asking about the Texas hotel-tax exemption. At Houston's 17% combined rate the state portion alone is worth asking about.

6Book

Use the rate links on each hotel above. If a hotel's value depends on a named package (park & cruise, shuttle), confirm the package with the hotel before you pay — packages are usually direct-booking rate codes, not OTA rooms.
