Unlike most US ports, you can walk to the New Orleans cruise terminals. The Julia Street and Erato Street terminals sit beside the Convention Center, and the Warehouse District hotels along Convention Center Boulevard and Julia Street are a 5-15 minute walk with luggage; the CBD hotels around Poydras and Canal are 15-25 minutes on foot or a short cab. That makes a dedicated hotel shuttle far less important here than in Galveston or Port Canaveral — which is lucky, because very few New Orleans hotels run one. The Kenner airport hotels run airport shuttles, not port shuttles: unless you have bought a park-and-cruise package that explicitly includes the port run, you are on your own for the 25-40 minute transfer.

An honest read on the walk
Half a mile of Warehouse District sidewalk with two suitcases, in July, is fine for most people. A mile and a half from Canal Street is a cab. Check the distance to your specific terminal, not to 'the port'.
If you need a shuttle, the words 'cruise terminal' in the policy
Airport shuttles are everywhere; port shuttles are rare. A Kenner hotel that says 'shuttle' almost always means to the airport. Ask specifically whether there is a run to the Julia Street or Erato Street terminal, when it goes, and whether it is reserved per room.
The terminal arrival window from your cruise line
Walkable hotels let you time the arrival precisely; a shuttle with a fixed departure may not match your window. Check the window before choosing.
The return leg on disembarkation morning
Walking back is easy. A cab to Kenner on a disembarkation morning is not — thousands of passengers leave at once. If your car is in Kenner, book the return ride in advance.

5What to avoid
⚠️Booking a Kenner hotel because it 'has a shuttle' without confirming the shuttle goes to the port. Most go to Louis Armstrong airport only.
⚠️Over-paying for a Convention Center hotel you could have walked from anyway — a CBD hotel a few blocks north is often $30-50/night cheaper and still 20 minutes on foot.
⚠️Assuming a rideshare will be quick on embarkation morning. Convention Center Boulevard backs up; leave a buffer.
⚠️Walking the Warehouse District late at night with luggage if you are unsure of the route — take the short cab.
