Fort Lauderdale is the easy port to fly into the day before: FLL is next door, and almost any hotel within four miles is 'close'. The decision is about what kind of night you want. The 17th Street Causeway hotels are the no-drama option — ten minutes to the ship, restaurants and a Publix within walking distance. Dania Beach airport hotels are cheaper and purely functional. Fort Lauderdale Beach is the 'make it a vacation day' option at a resort-fee premium. Downtown Las Olas is the dinner-and-a-walk option, a little further out. None of them are wrong; just match the rate to what you'll actually do with the evening.

Fort Lauderdale Beach hotels routinely add $25-45 a night in resort fees, plus $30-50 parking. A $179 beach room is a $250 room. The 17th Street and Dania Beach hotels mostly don't charge resort fees but many charge $15-25 for parking. Our real-price numbers include both.
A morning plan that fits an 11am-3pm embarkation window
Check-out is typically 11am. You want either a hotel that holds bags and runs a late-morning port shuttle, or a place where a 10-minute rideshare gets you to the terminal with no waiting.
Breakfast that's included or within walking distance
On a morning when you have nowhere to be until noon, an included breakfast is worth $15-20 a head. The 17th Street strip and Las Olas have cafés; the Griffin Road hotels mostly don't, so included breakfast matters more there.
