Orlando is a week-long destination by default: a theme park trip, a convention, a training contract at one of the simulation companies, a family medical stay. Eating out three times a day for a family of four near the parks costs more than the room. The difference between a real kitchen (two burners, a full-size fridge, a sink you can wash a pan in) and a 'kitchenette' (a mini-fridge and a microwave, which is what most I-Drive and US-192 listings mean) is $40-80 a day in food. Orlando's extended-stay supply is huge and well priced because it was built for convention crews: Extended Stay America at $70-110 with real kitchens, and the Homewood / Residence Inn / Staybridge tier at $130-200 with a free breakfast and evening socials that further cut the food bill. The 7-night rate, which you have to ask for, is where the money is.
2What you actually need
A real kitchen, not a 'kitchenette'
Ask specifically: how many burners, how big is the fridge, is there cookware. Extended Stay America, Homewood and Residence Inn rooms have a cooktop and full fridge; most 'kitchenette' listings at the US-192 motels mean a mini-fridge and microwave. Some brands keep cookware at the desk and hand it out on request.
The 7-night rate, asked for by name
Extended-stay brands price in breakpoints: nightly, 7+ nights, 30+ nights. The weekly rate is often 15-30% under the nightly rate and is rarely shown on booking sites. Call the property, say how many nights, and ask for the weekly rate.
Housekeeping cadence you can live with
Budget extended-stays clean weekly by default, with towel swaps on request; the Homewood tier cleans more often. Ask what the cadence is and what a mid-week clean costs.
On-site guest laundry
A week of theme park days means laundry. Coin or card machines on site turn a $20 laundromat trip into $5. Reviews will tell you whether the machines work.
A grocery store within a 5-minute drive
A kitchen is only a saving if you stock it. Publix is the Florida chain and there is one near every cluster below; there are also Walmart Supercenters on US-192 and near Westwood Blvd. Check the map before booking.

5What to avoid
