Hotels near Orlando Health / ORMC and Arnold Palmer Hospital for visiting families

1The situation

Someone you love is in Orlando Regional Medical Center, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children or Winnie Palmer, and you need a bed nearby for an open-ended number of nights in a city whose hotel industry is built for theme park weeks, not hospital weeks. The Orlando Health campus sits in SoDo, just south of downtown on Orange Avenue. Start with the good news, because an earlier version of this page had it backwards: **hospital parking here is free**. The Underwood Street garage is free for patients and visitors of ORMC, the Cancer Center and the ORMC emergency room, and Arnold Palmer's general garage on West Miller Street is free too. Valet is $8 if you want it. So the parking maths is entirely about the *hotel*: the walkable SoDo and downtown properties are business hotels at $130-200 a night that charge for parking on top, while the airport cluster 15 minutes south has free lots, 24-hour desks, fridges and rooms at $100-120. The I-Drive and Kissimmee motels are cheap but 20-35 minutes away through tourist traffic, which is the wrong trade when you are driving back and forth twice a day.

2What you actually need

  1. Minutes door-to-door at any hour, by car

Orange Avenue and Kuhl Avenue are quiet at 2am and a 15-minute drive from the airport hotels via SR-528 and Orange Avenue, or 5 minutes from a downtown hotel. The I-Drive strip is 25-35 minutes in daytime traffic on I-4 and not worth the $40 saving if you are doing the trip twice a day.

  2. A genuinely 24-hour front desk

You may check in at midnight after a long day in the ICU waiting room or need a key re-cut at 5am. Downtown and airport chain hotels have overnight staff; confirm it before booking at any smaller property.

  3. The parking maths — at the hotel, not the hospital

This is where the earlier advice on this page was wrong. **Orlando Health's visitor garages are free** — the Underwood St garage for ORMC and the West Miller St garage for Arnold Palmer — with valet at $8 if you prefer it. So there is no hospital garage bill to avoid, and no multi-day pass to negotiate. What still costs money is hotel parking: a downtown or SoDo hotel adds $15-30 a night, while the airport-cluster hotels park free. Over a week that is $100-200, and it is the only parking difference that matters.

  4. A fridge and microwave in the room

Hospital cafeterias close, you will bring food back, and some medications need refrigeration. Most chain rooms have both; ask for one when you book rather than discovering on arrival.

  5. Week-rate flexibility and the hospital's own hotel list

Many hospitals keep a list of nearby hotels with a discounted medical rate for patients' families. Ask Orlando Health's patient and family services or the social work team before booking, and do not assume any specific hotel or rate. Ask the hotel whether you can extend night by night without re-booking at a higher price.

3The shortlist3 hotels, cheapest first

Each hotel is here because it meets the requirements above — not because of its star rating. Prices are nightly rates before tax for the default dates; volatile facts (shuttles, parking terms) are stated as what to confirm, not as promises.

The budget fallback: about 15 minutes to the ORMC garages via SR-528 and Orange Avenue, free parking, free breakfast and a fridge in the room at roughly half the downtown rate. The right call for a stay of more than a few nights. Note that the Orlando Health visitor garages themselves are free, so the only parking cost to compare is the hotel's own.

4Practical logistics

Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC)
52 W Underwood St, Orlando, FL 32806, in SoDo at Orange Avenue and Kuhl Avenue, about a mile south of downtown. Level I trauma center. **Visitor parking is free**: the Underwood St. garage serves patients and visitors for ORMC, the Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center / Ambulatory Care Center and the ORMC emergency room at no charge. Valet at the ORMC main entrance is **$8 on arrival**, 5am-10pm Monday to Friday and 9am-5:30pm at weekends and on holidays. Confirm current arrangements at the information desk.
Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children / Winnie Palmer
92 W Miller St and 83 W Miller St, on the same campus a block south of ORMC. **The general parking garage is free**, directly next to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer at 108 West Miller St. Valet at the Children's Emergency Department & Trauma Center (92 West Miller St) runs **24/7 at $8.00** for all visitors and patients. Guests with a valid disabled parking permit park free in the 'B' garage next to Arnold Palmer.
Drive time from the airport cluster
From the Semoran / Augusta National Drive hotels, about 15 minutes to the ORMC garages via SR-528 west and Orange Avenue north outside rush hour, 20-30 minutes at peak. Downtown hotels are 5-10 minutes.
Medical rates
Ask Orlando Health's patient and family services whether they have a list of partner hotels. Participating hotels and rates change; confirm directly with the hotel and mention the hospital when you book.
Food near the campus
Orange Avenue through SoDo has a supermarket and a run of chain and local restaurants within a few blocks of the hospital; downtown and Thornton Park are a 5-minute drive north. After hours it is delivery or the 24-hour pharmacy on Orange Avenue.

Prices and schedules change. Treat figures as ranges and check before booking.

5What to avoid

  • A theme park motel on I-Drive or US-192 to save $40 a night. It is 25-35 minutes each way through I-4 traffic, and you will do the trip twice a day. The airport cluster is 15 minutes and free to park.
  • Booking one night at a time on a booking site. Rates move daily; if you know you will be here a week, ask the hotel directly for a weekly or medical rate and whether you can extend without re-booking.
  • Any week that overlaps a big Kia Center event, a Camping World Stadium game or a downtown festival without checking the rate first. Downtown hotels spike; the airport cluster holds steady.
  • The Orange Blossom Trail motels a mile west of the campus. They are close and cheap and the reviews explain why you should not.
  • Paying a premium for a hotel because you think it saves on hospital parking. It doesn't — the Orlando Health visitor garages are free. Choose on drive time, desk hours and the room rate instead.

6Book

Use the rate links on each hotel above. If a hotel's value depends on a named package (park & cruise, shuttle), confirm the package with the hotel before you pay — packages are usually direct-booking rate codes, not OTA rooms.
