But 'shuttle to the cruise terminal' hides three very different realities: a hotel-owned van that runs every 30 minutes, a single scheduled departure per ship, or a third-party shuttle the front desk 'can arrange' for a fee. Only the first two are worth planning around.

Shuttle departure times that match your cruise line's arrival window
Embarkation windows are usually 11am-3pm. A shuttle that only leaves at 9am either makes you wait outside the terminal or misses your window entirely.
Whether the shuttle is included, reserved, or first-come
Most hotels cap shuttle capacity per departure. On a Saturday with two ships in port the 11am run fills. Reserve at booking, in writing.
Luggage capacity
A 12-seat van with 10 people and 10 large suitcases doesn't work. Ask what happens with large groups or oversized bags.
Return pickup, or not
Many shuttles are one-way. If you need to get back to the hotel (for your car, or a post-cruise night), confirm the return service and its pickup point.

Hotel shuttles that exist
Tremont House: $25/person round trip. Moody Gardens: included in the Stay, Park & Sail package. Spark by Hilton: ~$7.50/person each way, seasonal. Most other hotels, including the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express, have none.
Rideshare backup
Typically $10-25 from Seawall hotels, 5-10 minutes. Surge is common on embarkation mornings.
Houston airports to Galveston
Hobby is the closer one: about a 45-minute drive. IAH is about 1.5 hours or more. Hotel shuttles do not cover this — use a scheduled shared shuttle or rideshare.

⚠️Hotels on the far west end of Seawall marketed as 'minutes from the cruise terminal' — it's 15-20 minutes, and longer on embarkation mornings.
⚠️Assuming the chain hotels on 61st Street run a cruise shuttle because they're 'near the port' — as of our check, the Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood do not.
