Hotels for a very late arrival at Houston IAH or Hobby

Verification pending — confirm directly with the hotel

1The situation

You land after 11pm — or after midnight once the delay is counted — and you want a bed, not a logistics problem. Neither Houston airport has a hotel you can walk to, so the question is how short and how cheap the ride is, and whether anyone will be at the desk when you get there. Hobby wins on distance: its cluster is under a mile and a half out, so a rideshare is $12-15 whatever the shuttle is doing. At IAH you are two to four miles out and the fare is $15-30. The thing to settle before you fly is the desk. A budget property whose desk closes overnight plus a flight that lands at 11:40 is a night in a car park, and the cheapest rooms are exactly the ones least consistent about overnight staffing.

2What you actually need

  1. A 24-hour staffed front desk

The non-negotiable. Most chain hotels on both strips staff overnight, but the cheapest properties are not always consistent about it — and 'confirm directly with the hotel' means phone them, not assume.

  2. A plan that does not depend on the shuttle

Airport shuttles commonly stop between 11pm and midnight, after which it is 'call the desk' with a driver who may have gone home. From Hobby budget $12-15 for a rideshare; from the IAH strip $15-30. Have the app set up before you land.

  3. Your room held for late arrival, in writing

Most bookings with a card on file are held all night, but some prepaid third-party rates can be released as no-shows. Call the hotel with your flight number so there is a note on the reservation.

  4. A realistic plan for food

Nothing on either strip is walkable at 1am. Eat at the terminal before you leave, or accept that the nearest 24-hour option is a drive.

3The shortlist3 hotels, cheapest first

Each hotel is here because it meets the requirements above — not because of its star rating. Prices are nightly rates before tax for the default dates; volatile facts (shuttles, parking terms) are stated as what to confirm, not as promises.

1.Red Lion Inn & Suites Houston IAH Airport

3.0 mi from George Bush Intercontinental Airport · 15350 John F Kennedy Blvd, Houston, Texas 77032

Red Lion Inn & Suites3-star
6.6/10324

A 24-hour desk on the JFK Boulevard strip, which is the part that matters at 1am. The shuttle's hours are not published anywhere — assume it will not meet a late landing and budget the $15-25 ride from IAH.

2.Comfort Suites Bush Intercontinental Airport

2.8 mi from George Bush Intercontinental Airport · 15555 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Houston, Texas 77032

Comfort Suites2.5-star
7.1/1034

A 24-hour desk two miles from IAH — but be clear about the shuttle: it stops at 11:30pm and does not start again until 5am. A landing after 11:30pm is a rideshare, about $15-25. The hotel is a good late-arrival choice because someone is at the desk and the ride is short and cheap, not because a van will meet you.

3.La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Houston Bush IAH South

2.9 mi from George Bush Intercontinental Airport · 15510 J.F.K. Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77032

La Quinta3-star
7.4/10151

Close to IAH with free parking, but the shuttle stops at 9pm — the earliest cut-off of any hotel here. Any evening landing is a paid ride. Worth it for the rate; not worth it if you were counting on the van.

4Practical logistics

Walking from the terminal
Nothing at either airport is walkable. Hobby's nearest hotels are about 0.9 miles along Airport Boulevard; IAH's nearest cluster is 2.3-2.5 miles along JFK Boulevard. Neither is a walk with luggage at midnight.
Rideshare after midnight
From Hobby to its hotel cluster is typically $12-15 for a 5-minute ride. From IAH to the JFK Boulevard strip is $15-25, and to the Humble hotels $20-30. Surge is common after midnight and on holiday weekends. These are estimates, not quoted fares.
Shuttles: they stop before you land
We checked the hours rather than take the advertising: Comfort Suites runs 5:00-11:30am and 3:00-11:30pm with **nothing between 11:30pm and 5am**; La Quinta IAH South stops at **9pm**; the Red Lion does not publish hours at all. If you land late, no hotel van on this strip is meeting you. That is fine — the ride from IAH to the JFK Boulevard strip is $15-25 and takes five minutes — but book on the 24-hour front desk, not on the shuttle.
If you are heading on to the Medical Center
A late landing before an early hospital appointment is a common Houston pattern. The Medical Center is about 25 miles from IAH and 10 from Hobby; an airport hotel plus a morning drive is usually cheaper and more reliable than trying to reach the TMC at 1am.

Prices and schedules change. Treat figures as ranges and check before booking.

5What to avoid

  • Budget properties whose desk closes overnight. The cheapest room in either corridor is not cheap if you cannot get into it.
  • Relying on an 'on request' shuttle after midnight without having confirmed it by phone that day.
  • Prepaid non-refundable third-party rates when yours is the last flight of the night. If it cancels you have paid for a room you cannot use.
  • Booking downtown or the Medical Center for a late landing at IAH. It is 25 miles at 1am; take the airport hotel and drive in fresh.

6Book

Use the rate links on each hotel above. If a hotel's value depends on a named package (park & cruise, shuttle), confirm the package with the hotel before you pay — packages are usually direct-booking rate codes, not OTA rooms.
