Hotels near the New Orleans cruise terminal with free cruise parking

1The situation

New Orleans is the port where parking decides the trip. The Julia Street and Erato Street terminals are downtown next to the Convention Center, and the Port of New Orleans sells parking in its own garages by the day — roughly $22-28/day, so $150-200 for a 7-night cruise, check the port's site before booking. The walkable CBD and Warehouse District hotels charge $30-50/night valet and will not hold your car for the week. The only hotels that genuinely let you leave a car for free for the length of the cruise are the airport-area properties in Kenner, 15 miles and 25-40 minutes away — and some of those sell the parking as a package rather than giving it away. So the question is not 'which hotel has free parking' but 'which combination of room, parking and transfer is cheapest for your cruise length'.

2What you actually need

  1. Parking for the full cruise, not just the overnight

Every Kenner hotel has a free lot for guests. Very few will let the car sit there for 7-8 days after you check out unless you have booked a named park-and-cruise rate. Ask for it by name and get the number of days covered in writing.

  2. A confirmed way to cover the 15 miles to the terminal

Kenner hotels run airport shuttles, not port shuttles. The transfer to Julia Street is 25-40 minutes depending on I-10 traffic, and a rideshare with luggage is typically $35-55 each way. Unless the hotel's package includes the port run, budget two of those.

  3. The return-leg plan

Ships disembark early and all at once, and the hotel's car is 15 miles away. Know whether the package includes a pickup, or whether you are booking your own ride back to Kenner on a morning when every other passenger is doing the same.

  4. An honest comparison against the port garage

If the port garage is $25/day and a CBD room is $40/night cheaper than the Kenner package once you add two transfers, the downtown hotel plus port parking can win. Run the numbers for your cruise length before assuming 'free' is cheapest.

4Practical logistics

Port of New Orleans official cruise parking
**$25 per day, flat**, at the Erato Street terminal. Julia Street is also $25 a day, or $25 plus a $1-a-day booking fee if you reserve. The detail that matters and that most ports do not do this way: **you are charged for the number of days of the cruise, not the number of calendar days the car sits** — Port NOLA's own FAQ says "7-day cruises will be charged 7 days of parking". So a 7-night cruise is about **$175**, not the eight days you would pay at Port Canaveral or Cape Liberty. Reservations are not required but space is limited and the port recommends them. For cruises over 7 days or back-to-back sailings, call Ann Hanks on 504-528-3318. Confirm current rates with the port before booking.
Kenner to the cruise terminals
About 15 miles via I-10; 25-40 minutes outside rush hour, longer on a weekday morning. Rideshare typically $35-55 each way with luggage.
CBD / Warehouse District hotel parking
Valet or garage, typically $30-50/night; most do not offer cruise-length parking. Confirm directly with the hotel.
Cruise terminals
Julia Street and Erato Street terminals, both on Port of New Orleans Place beside the Convention Center. Confirm your terminal with your cruise line.

Prices and schedules change. Treat figures as ranges and check before booking.

5What to avoid

  • Assuming a Kenner hotel's 'free parking' badge means cruise parking. It means free while you are a guest; cruise-length parking is a separate, named rate — if it exists at all at that property.
  • Forgetting the transfer cost. Two rideshares between Kenner and the port can cost $80-110 and erase the saving versus simply paying the port garage.
  • Leaving the car on a CBD street or in an unattended surface lot. Downtown New Orleans enforces parking aggressively and tows.
  • Booking the cheapest Kenner room without checking whether the package exists on your sail date — packages are limited and sell out on peak weekends.

6Book

Use the rate links on each hotel above. If a hotel's value depends on a named package (park & cruise, shuttle), confirm the package with the hotel before you pay — packages are usually direct-booking rate codes, not OTA rooms.
