Where to stay the night before a cruise from Port Canaveral
⏳Verification pending — confirm directly with the hotel
1The situation
Every cruise line says arrive the day before, and Port Canaveral is a good example of why: MCO is 45-60 minutes away on a tolled highway, I-95 and the Beachline back up, and a delayed morning flight can cost you the ship. So you need one night close to the port where the morning routine fits a late-morning to mid-afternoon embarkation. Early check-in doesn't matter. Check-out time, luggage holding, breakfast, and an easy run to the terminal do. The choice is really Cape Canaveral (closest, functional, the package hotels) versus Cocoa Beach (the beach, the pier, a real dinner out, 10-20 minutes further).
2What you actually need
Distance to the terminals in minutes, not miles
Cape Canaveral's A1A hotels are 5-10 minutes from any terminal. North Cocoa Beach is 10-15; south Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island are 15-25. All are fine for a night-before stay — just don't pay a 'next to the port' premium for the second and third group.
Check-out time vs your embarkation window
An 11am check-out with a 1pm arrival window leaves two hours with luggage. Look for noon check-out, or a hotel that holds bags and runs a shuttle timed to your ship.
Breakfast that starts early enough and doesn't cost $20 a head
Included breakfast is worth $10-20 per person on a morning when you're just waiting to leave. Cocoa Beach has cafés within walking distance of many hotels; the A1A strip in Cape Canaveral mostly does not.
A plan for the car, if you have one
If you drove, the night-before stay should come with cruise parking or you are paying the port garage anyway — see the free-parking and park-and-cruise pages. If you flew, a Cocoa Beach hotel with a shuttle or a cheap rideshare is the better night.
3The shortlist8 hotels, cheapest first
Each hotel is here because it meets the requirements above — not because of its star rating. Prices are nightly rates before tax for the default dates; volatile facts (shuttles, parking terms) are stated as what to confirm, not as promises.

1.La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Cocoa Beach Oceanfront
7 mi from Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal · 1 Hendry Ave, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931
2-star
The budget beachfront pick for a fly-in night: free Bright Side breakfast, an outdoor pool with a bar, and you walk straight onto the sand next to the Cocoa Beach Pier — dinner and a last night by the ocean without a car. The trade-off is the drive: it is the furthest hotel here from the terminals, no cruise parking or terminal shuttle could be found, and you should budget $20-30 for a rideshare in the morning. Not for leaving a car.

About a mile; 5-10 minutes to the terminals. Chain hotels with big lots and park-and-cruise packages. Little to walk to.
North Cocoa Beach
Roughly 2-6 miles; 10-15 minutes. Beachfront chains near the pier, restaurants within walking distance. Best all-round night-before zone if you're not leaving a car.
South Cocoa Beach
7-9 miles; 15-25 minutes. Cheaper older motels and beach hotels; fine, but not 'near the port'.
Merritt Island / SR-528
6-10 miles; 15-20 minutes. Inland, on the route in from Orlando. Useful for a Kennedy Space Center day before you sail.
Kennedy Space Center day
The visitor complex is about 20-30 minutes north of the port; a full day. Many families do it the day before embarkation — stay that night in Cape Canaveral or Merritt Island, not Cocoa Beach.
Prices and schedules change. Treat figures as ranges and check before booking.
5What to avoid
⚠️Flying into MCO the morning of the cruise. One delayed flight and you miss the ship; the night-before room is your insurance.
⚠️Resort fees. Several Cocoa Beach beachfront hotels add $15-30/night 'resort' or 'amenity' fees that don't show in the listing price. Our real-price numbers include them.
⚠️Booking the cheapest south Cocoa Beach motel and then paying $30 each way for a rideshare with luggage — the saving is gone.
⚠️Checking in late and expecting a shuttle seat the next morning without having reserved it.
